US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) - Team New Orleans Web site Overhaul/Evaluation of Content and Technology Options
Winner 2008 Award of Excellence - New Orleans Chapter of the Public Relations Society of America!

Based on feedback from stakeholders, USACE Team New Orleans' leadership knew that their Web site needed to be overhauled. The site was a hodge-podge of various "Web sites within Web sites," many with dramatically different designs and duplicate/outdated content. OPP´s approach: - Stakeholder Interviews: Interviewed over 45 internal stakeholders including senior leadership and USACE Headquarters Public Affairs. By coordinating with HQ, we learned of a HQ-driven Web site re-branding effort.
- Web site Inventory: Conducted a technical assessment of the site and identified over 30,000 pages, including over 9,000 broken links.
- Heuristic Review: Brought in PhD-level experts in Web site usability from Perceptive Sciences to conduct an objective 3rd party assessment of the Corps' site.
Results: With the help of a 3rd party expert from Perceptive Sciences who had done interface design work for Verizon, Paypal, Intuit (Turbo Tax, Quickbooks) and others, we were able to demonstrate visually many of the issues with the site. The technical inventory underscored the degradation of the site due to lack of centralized control. A summary of findings was presented to senior leadership and the overhaul effort was approved on a fast-track schedule.
